POSTCARDS BY CAROUSEL
HM: I was approached by Carousel in Brighton to create a set of animated sequences for their documentary project, Postcards. The project revolved around presenting stories told by members of the public in Worthing, East Sussex. Filmmaker Kitty Wallace suggested the idea that one of these stories could be interpreted with animation.
The storyline is based on real events involving 80 year old Jennifer from Worthing, who saved a little boy from drowning in the sea after falling out of his boat. The narrative would also be

HM: Originally, I had planned to give the characters more colour however this intention was dropped due to time contraints. I realised that the animation had to use very minimal colour while not removing the emotional core of the story. For this reason, I explored the work of Lyndon Hayes who uses few colours in his work.
