Football Fanatic
A new football game currently in production
HM: I was approached John Last to design a new football game, Football Fanatic. The game involves two teams of football fans who pass the ball around on the board by answering questions related to their chosen team. Whether you're playing as Manchester City or Arsenal, Football Fanatic puts your knowledge to the test.
The Board

The very first thing designed for the game was the board. Inspired by John's original design, the board needed to portray several obstacles that the players could score a goal. Each circle on the pitch represents a position that the ball could move to every time a team answers a question correctly. There are two ways teams can score - one way is to score directly in front of the goal via the yellow symbol while the other way is to score on the "Free Kick" spot marked in red.

Box Art

EQUALITY and INCLUSIVITY were two important terms when designing the box art for Football Fanatic. The game itself allows players to choose either the men's or women's team for football club they support. Therefore, two designs needed to be made for men's and women's football. Each piece needed to have characters that would resonate and resemble a plethora of football players both retired and currently active.

Throughout the game, the players have a choice of whether to score directly from a goal labelled in yellow, or score via a free kick labelled in red. When a team lands on a red ball, they have to pick up a card that describes the outcome of the free kick. This doesn't guarantee a goal but it can instead result multiple outcomes such a corner kick, a throw in, a penalty or a miss entirely.
